Yumna Al-Arashi is a young Arab-American photographer based in Brooklyn, New York. A graduate of The New School where she studied International Politics, Al-Arashi’s images offer a fresh take on scenes of daily life that she has documented throughout the Middle East. In contrast to the strife-laden images the Western media continually broadcasts of the area, Al-Arashi’s images capture camaraderie, quaint moments and the natural beauty that is present in the region. As such, they function to eliminate the archetype of ‘the other’ and instead exude a very real humanism.
